She has all eventprofs WALKING !

Updated: Sep 23, 2020

We have often been speaking about the importance of a community, especially during the crisis.

A community is a familiar thread used to bring people together. Having this bond with others is what builds valuable relationships, and gives us a deeper sense of belonging.

Back in April 2020, when we had to adopt new lockdown measures and stay at home, most of us felt a certain excitement. We were finally able to sleep in, watch our favourite TV shows and read all of the books we've never had time for.

But after a month, we started to struggle with our newly found lifestyle.

As summer approached, we welcomed our post lockdown "freedom" only to feel disappointed again by recurring restrictions and travel bans.

Now we know, the pandemic is here to stay and we have to find new ways to support, motivate and inspire each other. Most importantly, however, we have to STAY MOVING;

both physically and in the metaphorical sense of the word.

One eventprof has all of us WALKING and lifiting our spirits thanks to Instagram videos.

Heid Legein from "The MICE guru" DMC based in Norway, has created an online walking challenge for events professionals worldwide.

The MICE guru herself, Heidi, has embraced social media to create her own unique challenge for our industry called: EVENTPROFS WALK. Follow them on Instagram @eventprofswalk.

We have personally partaken in this initiative and are so delighted there are around 200 other eventrprofs worldwide, taking part in the #eventprofswalk, sharing videos and pictures from their mini-adventures.

Heidi is an amazing professional in the MICE industry who appreciates the true power of an online community.

Last month, we have asked Heidi how did she reinvent herself and her business during the pandemic. Here is what she wrote for us. ENJOY!

It’s been six months…six. What are six months in a person’s life? Or in that of a company?

You could argue six months is hardly enough to make any huge impact or significant change in the cycle of evolution. Yet this past period of time has impacted me more than I ever thought possible, both on a personal – as well as a professional level.

So when Paulina Kwasniak, co-female entrepreneur and event boss lady, asked me the question: “How did you adapt your business strategy towards the future?”, a flood of thoughts flashed through my brain, as if those mere six months had been six years, as if I had just travelled around the world six times without actually getting on a single plane…, as if evolution went through a couple of cycles and it’s time to hit the refresh button.

It’s been a rollercoaster ride and I’m still going up and down at exorbitant speed, but I choose to keep my hands up high in the air and enjoy the rush. Risk it. Face it. Love it.

I’ve always been an optimist and “who doesn’t risk it, doesn’t win” is something I like to tell myself in the mirror every morning. It is my honest opinion that who doesn’t dare to take action, will never be a doer; just a talker or a critic. So I choose to be one: a doer.

The past six months have allowed for a tremendous amount of reflection and I believe I am an entirely different person going forward. My interests have changed, my mindset, my needs, my goals and I feel a certain calm in the midst of the storm. Perhaps because the storm is nowhere near over, but also thanks to a newfound strength and patience.

In silence lies tremendous creativity. We can never improve our lives if we never stop to take a moment, to simply breathe or reassess our behaviour. And now that we were forced to ask ourselves what we want our future to be like, how we’ll get there and who we want to go there with, a few light bulbs went off.

I’d like to believe my company “The MICE guru” is a progressive destination management company; continuously embracing change and finding new angles to build happy relationships with partners and clients.

The biggest change in strategy that I have implemented for the time being and the years to come is a redefined social visibility.

Our industry and the people in it are changing so rapidly that I found it important to pick up the pace in terms of understanding generational differences, new networking channels and the incredible value of optimal content to promote oneself, in my case also the destination I operate in and the thousands of local partners active in my destination.

I have been reskilling and upskilling to have a better grounding in the virtual world, connect better with my #eventprofs peers around the world and instigate new collaborations that benefit a multitude of partners.

I am working on projects of digitalisation and sustainable development and hope to spread knowledge to my national community and inspire them and many beyond with not only my own findings but input from the entire global community.

By participating in the Digital Festival, organised by Irina Graf, I have had a chance to bounce off a few ideas with the community and the feedback has been so incredibly motivating that it fuels me, even more, to continue pushing for change.

Several destinations and event planners from around the world have reached out for advice and collaboration based on our IG live streams, showcases and educationals.

And more than just a new skill set, our silent reflections have allowed us to design new exciting concepts and ideas for our upcoming MICE projects.

We can’t wait to welcome our global clients back to Norway!

I would encourage everyone in our industry to join forces in developing our future. Don’t sit back, relax and wait for things to go back to normal, but take action now, build larger sails and get the support you need to weather the storm and come out of it happy and refreshed.

None of us knows with absolute certainty where these winds will take us or if our sails will rip before the storm dies down, but remember nothing is ever the end.

We are in this together and supporting each other goes a very long way.

Put your heart and soul in it and eventually, the love will always come back to you.

Allow yourself to grow, because there is one thing there is no doubt about: tomorrow will be nothing like yesterday.
